Code of Conduct

Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory supports a positive learning environment where students can flourish under our mentorship and the watchful eye of spectating parents. The code of conduct has been designed to ensure the overall well-being of all parties concerned.

When signing up for classes at Art of Motion Dance Laboratory, I understand and agree to follow the terms listed below for myself, my family, and my dancer. I agree that if I, my family, or my dancer violate these policies, I will take full responsibility and will work with Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory in a positive way to correct the action as soon as it occurs or I am notified of an issue. I also understand that Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory has the right to dismiss me, my family, and/or my dancer without refunds if there is a violation. I also understand that I will be responsible for any fees that Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory may accrue to take action in enforcing the Code of Conduct.

  • Any issue or question that arises throughout the dance year will be addressed solely and directly to the studio owner.

  • If the issue is related to the studio owner, it can be referred to the appointed safeguarding lead, who will have the authority to deal with it.

  • Common areas are to be a positive place for all to enjoy. Negativity is not acceptable.

  • Students must come to class ready to dance. (please see dress code) This means hair pulled back and in proper dance attire before the start of class. Class time is for dancing and learning, not preparing for class.

  • Dancers and parents are expected to be respectful to each other and all dance instructors, choreographers, and educators and vice versa.

  • Dancers are to be respectful to each other in the classroom. Some classes allow for different skill and age levels. Only positive remarks will be accepted.

  • Choreography, costumes and music adaptions are property of the studio and will not be used or shared for anything other than studio use.

  • Tobacco, alcohol, and/or drugs are prohibited in or around the dance studio. They are also never to be given to anyone under the legal age for any reason.

  • Dance shoes must not be worn outside as they can then damage dance floors, and bring in pathogens that are unhealthy.

  • Please be mindful of the personal social media of your dancers. Many of them report being a dancer at Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory. If they make inappropriate posts, it is a reflection on our environment and may risk them being dismissed from the studio depending on the content.

  • Audio recording is strictly prohibited, and video recording is only permitted if approved by Sayward Harris ten Hove.

We aim to offer the best possible dance experiences and opportunities for everyone at Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory.

Punctuality

Being late can mean...

  • 5 minutes late every day- 3 days of school lost learning time a year

  • 10 minutes late every day- 6.5 days of school lost learning time a year

  • 15 minutes late every day- 10 days of school lost learning time a year

  • 20 minutes late every day- 13 days of school lost learning time a year

  • 30 minutes late every day- 19 days of school lost learning time a year

It is at the discretion of the teacher, with the personal best interest of the student in mind, whether a latecomer will be permitted to participate in class.

A class is structured with a warm-up that would be missed with a late arrival, thereby increasing the likelihood of injury.

Observing Classes

Parental involvement is welcomed, so we encourage you to watch your child’s class. Please follow our guidelines below to make this a memorable and enjoyable day for all.

  • Please make arrangements to be on time and stay for the entire class. It is distracting to our dancers, teachers and other parents to have people coming and going. If you must leave, we ask that you wait until an appropriate break in the class to exit quietly.

  • Please do not bring young children who cannot sit quietly for the entire class.

  • Please turn off your cell phone (ringer and vibration mode) and do not answer a call during class.

  • Please do not distract your child by trying to attract their attention during class. They are concentrating on what the teacher is asking them to do.

  • Please do not talk.

  • Please do not eat or drink in the studio.

  • Please be in the moment with your child, so we request that you refrain from taking videos and pictures during the class.

Dresscode

A dress code has been implemented to ensure the students' safety and directs students to focus on the instruction rather than the fashion sported by class peers.

  • Only BLACK tight-fitting clothing is allowed to be worn.

  • NO Colours or excessive branded clothing to be worn in any classes.

  • NO T-shirts, hoodies or baggy clothing may be worn in any class.

  • Black hot pants, shoestrings, crop tops and leotards are available for purchase from Art of Motion International Dance Laboratory while stocks last.

  • Clothing can be purchased from alternative suppliers.

  • Black hot pants to be worn under loose shorts.

  • All clothing and shoes should be marked with the student's name in a permanent marker or label, and all students are responsible for their personal belongings.

  • Students must have a yoga mat, sweat towel, deodorant, scissors, plasters and hair grooming accessories daily.

  • Hair must be worn up and away from the face in a secure bun.

  • Proper clothing, hair, and shoes are for the safety of your dancer and to provide them with the appropriate mindset for their dance genre. If your dancer does not have the required clothing items for safety reasons, they will be requested to change them before coming into class. If they don’t have the requested clothing items, they will be asked to call home to have a parent or guardian bring them the correct clothing. They will not be allowed to participate in class until they are appropriately dressed and groomed.
